Average salary in southern city 38% higher than national average, according to Vietnamworks.

Ho Chi Minh City has the highest average monthly salary in Vietnam, at more than 38 per cent higher than the national average, according to the latest report from Vietnamworks.

Based on the offered minimum average salary of employers, Ho Chi Minh City maintained its position as having the highest average salary in the country. The minimum average salary is around $456 monthly and $5,465 annually, 38 per cent higher than the national average. The General Statistics Office put the average monthly salary of Vietnamese employees in 2017 at VND5.6 million ($245).

Hanoi ranked fifth, with a minimum average monthly salary of $407. Experienced candidates in the capital have reasonable expectations in terms of salary. Jobs posted with a salary from $501 to $700 are viewed the most, while most experienced candidates apply for positions with a salary range of $251 to $500.

Da Nang, the economic center of the central region, ranked second, with a minimum average monthly salary of $452. Management-level candidates in the city expect a lower salary range than those in other cities. Management-level candidates in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Binh Duong and Quang Ninh mostly apply for jobs with a salary from $1,000 to $2,000, while those in Da Nang tend to apply for positions with a salary range of $700 to $1,000.

Two major centers of production in Vietnam are Binh Duong and Bac Ninh provinces, which ranked third and fourth. The minimum average salary in Binh Duong is $444 and in Bac Ninh is $421.
